A fire outbreak has occurred at Ports and Cargo Terminal berth 7 and 8 at Tin Can Island Port, Lagos, on Thursday 20th July. A crane caught fire and affected a vessel, MV ALGECIRAS EXPRESSS, which was loaded with containers.
According to eyewitness the crane caught fire during off loading of containers from the vessel, which engulfed the vessel and other containers. It was however confirmed that the fire involving a liebherr crane and Mv Hapag-Lloyd was raged for four hours before it was quenched by firemen.
The management of Nigeria Port Authority ( NPA) has not made an official statement about the occurrence but eyewitnesses said no life was lost during the outbreak.
