Senior Commercial HVAC TechnicianSouth Jersey/Philadelphia AreaSalary Commensurate with ExperiencePosition SummaryThe Senior Commercial HVAC Technician is a highly skilled, field-based professional responsible for the diagnosis, service, repair, commissioning, and optimization of complex commercial HVAC systems. This role requires advanced technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, leadership in the field, and the ability to work independently while supporting operational excellence and customer satisfaction.This position may serve as a technical lead on jobsites and acts as a mentor to junior technicians and apprentices.Essential Functions & ResponsibilitiesTechnical & Trade ResponsibilitiesDiagnose, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC systems, including:Rooftop Units (RTUs)Split systemsChillers (air-cooled and water-cooled)Boilers (hot water & steam)Cooling towersMake-up air unitsVAV systemsHeat pumps and VRF/VRV systemsPerform advanced troubleshooting of:Electrical systems (single and three-phase)Motors, VFDs, contactors, relays, and control boardsRefrigeration systems, compressors, and metering devicesRead and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and control sequencesCommission new equipment and verify proper operation per manufacturer specificationsPerform system balancing assistance and airflow diagnostics when requiredControls, Controls Interface & AutomationTroubleshoot and adjust commercial HVAC controls, including:Building Automation Systems (BAS)Thermostats, sensors, and actuatorsInterface with controls contractors and building engineersVerify sequences of operation and proper system responsePreventive Maintenance & CompliancePerform scheduled preventive maintenance on commercial HVAC equipmentComplete accurate service documentation, PM reports, and compliance checklistsIdentify and communicate equipment deficiencies and life-cycle replacement needsEnsure all work complies with:OSHA safety standardsEPA regulationsState and local mechanical codesCompany safety policies and proceduresCustomer Service & CommunicationServe as a technical representative of the company on commercial job sitesCommunicate clearly with:Property managersFacility directorsBuilding engineersGeneral contractorsExplain system issues, repair recommendations, and preventative strategies in a professional mannerProvide detailed repair recommendations and estimates when applicableLeadership & MentorshipAct as a field leader and technical resource for junior technicians and apprenticesProvide on-the-job training and guidancePromote safe work practices and quality standardsSupport management with technical input on job planning and system evaluationsAdministrative & Technology ResponsibilitiesAccurately complete service tickets, work orders, and time entries using company systemsDocument refrigerant usage and compliance logsMaintain truck stock, tools, and equipment in good working orderCommunicate job status, delays, and material needs proactivelyRequirementsRequired Skills/AbilitiesRequired QualificationsEducation & CertificationsHigh school diploma or GED requiredEPA Universal Certification requiredOSHA-10 (minimum) preferred; OSHA-30 strongly preferredState HVAC license or equivalent (where required by jurisdiction)Experience7+ years of commercial HVAC service experienceDemonstrated experience working independently on complex commercial systemsExperience mentoring or leading other technicians preferredTechnical SkillsAdvanced electrical and mechanical troubleshootingStrong refrigeration diagnostics skillsProficiency with test instruments (meters, gauges, combustion analyzers, etc.)Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and control diagramsPhysical DemandsAbility to lift up to 75 lbsAbility to climb ladders, work on rooftops, and access confined spacesAbility to stand, kneel, crouch, and work in varying weather conditionsMust be able to wear required PPEWork EnvironmentCommercial and industrial facilitiesRooftops, mechanical rooms, and occupied buildingsExposure to weather extremes, electrical hazards, moving mechanical parts, and noiseCompetencies & AttributesStrong problem-solving and diagnostic abilityHigh attention to detail and quality workmanshipProfessional communication and customer-focused mindsetLeadership presence and team-oriented attitudeReliable, punctual, and safety-drivenSalary Description $45.00-$60.00 per hour
