About the Role:

The Forklift Mechanic / Maintenance professional plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of forklift equipment within transportation and warehousing environments. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a diverse fleet of forklifts and related machinery to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic components, and preventive maintenance techniques to extend equipment lifespan. Additionally, the mechanic will contribute to facility maintenance efforts, supporting a safe and operational work environment. Ultimately, this position ensures that all forklift operations comply with safety standards and operational requirements, directly impacting the overall efficiency of warehouse logistics.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience as a mechanic specializing in forklift or heavy equipment maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of general mechanics, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and engine tune-ups.
• Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and technical manuals.
• Valid forklift operator certification or experience operating forklifts safely.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Technical certification or vocational training in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment maintenance.
• Experience with fleet maintenance systems.
• Familiarity with facility maintenance practices and safety regulations in warehousing environments.
• Knowledge of specialized forklift components and attachments.
• Prior experience working in transportation and warehousing industries.

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on forklifts, including engine tune-ups, tire changes, and hydraulic system repairs.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using schematics and technical manuals to identify root causes and implement effective repairs.
• Review fleet maintenance schedules to ensure timely servicing and reduce equipment downtime.
• Collaborate with warehouse and facility teams to address building maintenance needs and related forklift operations and safety requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts inventory, and repair logs to support compliance and operational transparency.

Skills:

The required skills are applied daily to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and hydraulic issues, ensuring forklifts operate safely and efficiently. General mechanics knowledge enables the mechanic to perform engine tune-ups and tire changes, while the ability to read hydraulic schematics guides precise repairs of complex systems. Preventive maintenance skills are essential to schedule and execute routine servicing that prevents costly breakdowns. Fleet maintenance skills help organize and prioritize work orders, optimizing equipment availability. Facility maintenance skills support the mechanic in maintaining a safe work environment by addressing related building and operational concerns.
